Holy Week 2015

Eastgate Christian Church will hold several special Holy Week services from Palm Sunday, March 29 through Easter Sunday, April 5.  The theme of this year’s services, “The Nature of Love,” is inspired by the famous “love chapter” of the New Testament, 1 Corinthians 13.  Reflections consider how God’s love was powerfully demonstrated during the final days of Jesus’ earthly life and how we can experience and share in this love in our own lives.

As a part of Eastgate’s commitment to help others in need, items for our food pantry will be collected at all Holy Week services.  Non-perishable fruit items are particularly appreciated.

The Holy Week services are:

·         Palm Sunday, March 29 at 10:25 a.m.  Worship service with procession of palms, special music, and Holy Communion.  The Eastgate choir will present a special cantata, “Song of the Shadows,” which remembers Jesus’ final days through music.

·         Maundy Thursday, April 2 at 7:00 p.m.  A service of Holy Communion and Tenebrae, with a meditation, “Love bears all things, believes all things,” special music and traditional readings.

·         Good Friday, April 3 at 7:00 p.m.  A service about “The Seven Last Words of Christ,” with short reflections on Jesus’ seven statements from the cross.

·         Holy Saturday, April 4 at 8:00 p.m.  The Great Vigil of Easter, featuring a meditation, “Love hopes all things, endures all things,” special music, traditional scripture readings, a celebration of the sacrament of baptism, and Holy Communion.

·         Easter Sunday, April 5 at 10:25 a.m.  Easter worship service with special music and Holy Communion.  Rev. Joshua Patty will conclude “The Nature of Love” series with a focus on Jesus’ resurrection and its powerful promise, “Love Never Ends.”
