Clinic in Haiti

Seeking God, Sharing Christ, Serving Others

In partnership with the our regional partners in the Disciples of Christ of Greater Kansas City, we support an ongoing mission to Haiti by raising the annual salary of a Haitian doctor for a clinic in Carrefour, Haiti.

Carrefour is a large city outside of the the capital city of Port-au-Prince with few medical facilities or resources.  Eastgate supports a local church effort to provide a small clinic that provides diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis, malaria, and issues related to malnutrition and parasites.  It is particularly helpful in treating common children's illnesses.

Without the clinic, people in this underserved area would need to journey to Port-au-Prince to seek medical help.  Given travel time and wait times in medical facilities, this would take up the entire day (or multiple days, if patients could not be seen on a given day).  Often, those who visit the clinic are dealing with issues that people in the United States would simply treat with over-the-counter medicines or a visit to an urgent care clinic.

For over ten years, Eastgate has been active in mission efforts to help people in Haiti, often working in conjunction with Global Ministries workers and partners from CONASPEH, the National Spiritual Council of Haitian Churches who is a partner of our denomination's Global Ministries.  On trips to the area with others from the Kansas City area, people from Eastgate spoke with a local pastor, Bishop Raymond, who was active in many efforts to strengthen communities.

When Bishop Raymond explained the need for a medical clinic, people from Eastgate Christian Church opened their hearts and their checkbooks, pledging to sponsor the annual salary of a doctor to work in the clinic once each week.  This commitment helped to make the clinic a reality, as Bishop Raymond also found funding to obtain building space and hire a nurse.

Eastgate accepts monetary donations to support the Haiti Clinic year-round.  You can make a gift in person at Eastgate.  You can also send a check, with the memo "Haiti Doctor" to Eastgate's office.  Or you can donate to Eastgate using a credit/debit card here.  (When prompted, please identify the gift is for the Haiti Doctor.)
