Service to Others
Seeking God, Sharing Christ, Serving Others
Eastgate is committed to serving others in Christ's name, whether in our neighborhood, our city, our country, or around the world.
Financial Support of Mission
We put our money where our mouth is. We invest in mission work in our community and around the world. Some of this money supports partner ministries in our denomination; some provides money for local groups; some provides key support for the House of Hope.
Eastgate designates 15% of all general financial gifts for dozens of partner ministries supported through Disciples Mission Fund. These ministries include our regional office, general minister and president, mission work, educational opportunities, and much more. In addition, we participate in annual efforts to raise money for all of these ministries. You can learn more about each of these partner ministries here.
Eastgate uses an additional percentage of all general financial gifts to support ministries and nonprofit groups in our community. Our Serving Others Ministry selects the recipients and which month each will receive a donation from Eastgate throughout the year. You can find a list of recent local partners here.
Eastgate has long supported the work of church partners in Haiti. Each year, we fund the salary of a doctor who meets patients once each week at a clinic in Carrefour, Haiti. Learn more about the Clinic in Haiti here.
Hands On Service for Others
We actively serve our neighbors in a variety of ways. Many people volunteer their time in a variety of ways. Year-round, we collect food items to support the food pantry at Community Services League and paper towels and toilet paper for Hope House. We also participate in several projects each year.
Eastgate has a Prayer Shawl Ministry, which knits and crochets items that people can wrap around them to feel warmth and embrace while they pray. Items are blessed in worship before being given.
Eastgate gathers people each month who turn used plastic grocery bags into “plarn.” This plastic yarn can then be woven into waterproof sleeping mats for homeless individuals.
Eastgate coordinates volunteers who deliver meals with the Raytown Summer Lunch Ministry. These people help deliver sack lunches to youth on weekdays during the weeks between summer school and the fall semester.
Supporting Our Community
We support our community by sharing our space and caring for the natural world.
Eastgate is the charter organization for Cub Pack 483 and offers them meeting space each week. Elementary age youth (not just boys anymore) complete projects encouraging character formation through this Boy Scout program.
Eastgate hosts a young Spanish-speaking congregation, El Santo de Israel, who meet for worship services, Bible studies, and meetings at various times each week. This allows them to grow in the early years without focusing on meeting market rent or caring for property.
Eastgate promotes care for God’s creation through a recycling program, which provides recycling tips, information, and onsite collection bins.
All of these efforts, and more, to help others around our community and beyond are coordinated by Eastgate's Serving Others Ministry.
